Why We Started Farming

Clear Field Farm began with a simple but deeply personal question: What would it look like to slow down and live more intentionally?

Our journey started not with land or livestock, but with our family—specifically our oldest son, Nolan. After struggling with persistent eczema and inflammation at a young age, we began taking a closer look at what we were putting into and onto our bodies. That curiosity quickly turned into a lifestyle shift toward clean eating, organic foods, and naturally minded living.

As we learned more, we became increasingly aware of how disconnected modern food systems are from the land—and how much that disconnect can affect our health. What began as small changes in our kitchen grew into something much bigger: a desire to steward land well, raise animals humanely, and provide food we felt confident feeding our own children.

The name Clear Field Farm is rooted in that vision

The name Clear Field Farm came to us one evening as we were flipping through old family history books. That’s when we came across the meaning of our last name, Blair, which comes from the Scottish Gaelic word blàr, meaning “field,” “plain,” or “open land.” In older Gaelic use it’s described specifically as a field clear of woods, which perfectly captured the vision we had for this place. That’s when the name “Clear Field” truly stuck. 

Clear Field became both a nod to our heritage and a reflection of our mission—a return to open land, honest work, and food raised with clarity, care, and intention.

We moved to the countryside with a hope of creating a place grounded in simplicity, stewardship, and faith. A place where our children could learn firsthand where food comes from, how animals are cared for, and the value of hard work. Farming quickly became part of our homeschool rhythm—real-life lessons in responsibility, patience, and gratitude.

Today, Clear Field Farm is our family’s commitment to raising food the way we believe it should be done: thoughtfully, ethically, and naturally. From pasture-raised animals to mindful land management, everything we do is guided by our belief that food matters—where it comes from, how it’s raised, and who it nourishes.

This farm isn’t just about producing food. It’s about cultivating health, connection, and a way of life that honors God, the land, and the families we serve.
